Spring Cleaning, APD Style

Simple ways to keep your tank running well and your fuel bill lighter

Once winter finally loosens its grip, most of us start making a mental list of what needs attention around the house.

At APD, we’d add your fuel tank to that list. A simple spring tune-up can help you catch leaks, notice issues early, and save you money down the road.

Tank Check, Please

A Fairbanks winter asks a lot of your tank. Once the season shifts, it is worth taking a look at how everything held up.

Check for any visible signs of leaks or moisture around the tank, valves, and connections. Make sure fittings are secure and that the surrounding area is clear and accessible. Because if fuel is leaking, you’re still paying for it!

If It Smells Funny, It Probably Is

If your tank suddenly smells like it’s trying to get your attention, go ahead and listen.

A strong fuel smell is not something to shrug off and blame on the breeze. It could point to a leak or venting issue that is easier to deal with when caught early.

And if you are standing there thinking, “Hmm, now what?” the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation has helpful guidance for home heating oil tanks, including tips on spill prevention and maintenance. Think of it as a pretty solid cheat sheet for tank owners.

How Old Is Your Tank?

Most fuel tanks are designed to last around 15 to 20 years. As they get older, they can become more prone to wear, leaks, and structural issues. If your tank is more than 20 years old, now might be a good time to start thinking about whether an upgrade makes sense.

If you notice anything that looks off, give us a ring. We are happy to provide recommendations to trusted partners who can help with tank maintenance or replacement to handle the issue properly.

Plan Ahead, Save Later

A better fuel bill usually comes down to two things: good pricing and fewer surprises. We can help with both.

Our Smart Fill and Smart Monitor delivery plans help take the guesswork out of staying fueled up. With automatic refills and competitive pricing, we’ve made it easier to avoid those last-minute moments that nobody enjoys.

The Fairbanks Advantage

Our local team has been serving Fairbanks since 1981. We know the conditions here, the demands of a long heating season, and that small issues can turn into expensive ones if they go unchecked. That local knowledge is part of how we help our customers stay ahead.

If your tank is acting a little dramatic this spring, call the APD office at (907) 488-2575. We’ll help point you in the right direction.
