Mark Your Calendar: Spring Events Around Fairbanks

A few good reasons to get out and about this spring

The APD team has been serving Fairbanks since 1981, and one of the best parts of spring is seeing familiar local favorites return for the season.

Whether it’s market opening day, the birds at Creamer’s Field, or a trail challenge that keeps things interesting, there’s plenty happening around town. Here are three annual events to add to your list.

Fairbanks Winter Trails Challenge

This one earns a spot on the spring calendar because in Fairbanks, spring and winter are sometimes still negotiating. The 2025-2026 Fairbanks Winter Trails Challenge runs through May 15 and turns local trails into an all-ages, all-abilities outdoor scavenger hunt, with Parks and Recreation staff hiding special signs in secret locations at spots like Birch Hill Recreation Area, Chena Lake Recreation Area, UAF North Campus, and Creamer’s Field.

Spring Migration Celebration at Creamer’s Field

The Spring Migration Celebration is a great excuse to head to Creamer’s Field and let the birds make a dramatic entrance. Scheduled for Saturday, April 25, this free event includes nature walks, wildlife viewing, treats, and crafts for kids and families. And for the dedicated birders, late April is a great time to spot Trumpeter Swans, Canada Geese, Greater White-fronted Geese, and various duck species.

Tanana Valley Farmers Market

The return of the Tanana Valley Farmers Market is another classic sign of spring. The 2026 market season begins May 9 and runs through September 19, with the market open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The market highlights Alaska Grown produce and plants along with Made in Alaska and Silver Hand arts and crafts, so there is plenty to browse once the season gets underway. And, fun fact, it’s the oldest established farmers market in the state and the only one with its own permanent building.

See You Around Town

However you like to welcome spring, these events are a pretty great place to start. From all of us at APD, we are glad to be part of the Fairbanks community and to see another season taking shape around town.
