Fueling Fairbanks Since Before You Had a Cell Phone

Why choose APD for your fuel needs? Here’s our story.

Fuel might not be glamorous, but it’s essential in Alaska. Whether you're heating your home or keeping a worksite moving, you want a provider who knows the roads, the weather, and the quirks of life in the interior.

That’s us. We’ve been at it since 1981. And while a few things have changed (like the number of trucks and the quality of our coffee), the core of what we do, and how we do it, hasn’t.

1981: One Truck. One Phone..

Alaska Petroleum Distributing was born in Fairbanks with a simple idea: reliable fuel delivery for interior Alaska. Starting with just one truck and a phone line, the company began by serving the community’s essential fuel needs with the same grit and resourcefulness that defines life in Alaska. Two fuel trucks later, Alaska Petroleum was officially established and ready to serve.

Early 2000s: The Phones Kept Ringing

By the early 2000s, APD had grown to a team of 20 with a fleet of 10 trucks and the phones were ringing off the hook. Word had spread that APD knew how to deliver (literally). What started as a one-truck operation was now becoming a cornerstone of the community’s fuel needs.

2019: A New Chapter (Same Address)

In 2019, APD joined the NorthStar Energy family of companies. What did that mean for Fairbanks? Not much changed, except now we had even more support to do what we do best: serve this community. Same name, same local team.

Now: Still Local. Still Delivering

Today, we’re proud to run a full fleet of fuel delivery trucks, tractor/semi-trucks, and trailers, all operated by local drivers who know this community like the back of their snow boots. We also offer 24-hour emergency call-out deliveries, because fuel needs don’t exactly stick to a 9-to-5 schedule.

We’ve grown into one of the largest fuel distributors in the region, and while we’ve got more horsepower than we did back in the 80s, we still run things the way we always have: with safety, service, and a deep respect for this place we call home.

So, next time you see one of our trucks roll by, give us a wave (we’ll be waving back). And if you’re running low, just give us a call, because we’re ready to keep you moving.
