How Fairbanks Does Great Outdoors Month

June is officially Great Outdoors Month! Whether you’re brand new to town or trying to stick to that “get outside more” resolution you made six months ago, this is the month to make it happen.

At APD, we’re your neighbors. So, we know that when the sun basically forgets how to set, there’s only one thing to do: get outside and enjoy every second of it. That’s why we’re using Great Outdoors Month to shout out one of our absolute favorite things to do in Fairbanks: soaking up the summer solstice.

From dancing downtown at the Midnight Sun Festival to unwinding in the warm waters of Chena Hot Springs, Fairbanks in June is something special. It’s long days, late sunsets, and a whole lot of local pride.

If you're looking for a sign to embrace the outdoors this month, this is it. See you out there!

A Year-Round Alaskan Gem

Chena Hot Springs Resort is a go-to escape for our team and so many locals. In June, it’s the ultimate way to unwind as you lounge in natural mineral waters. You haven’t lived until you’ve watched the clock hit midnight while you're still in sunglasses!

Sure, the Aurora Borealis takes a summer nap while we’re busy enjoying round-the-clock daylight, but it’s worth noting that from late August through April, Chena Hot Springs becomes one of the best places on earth to see the Northern Lights. The resort offers panoramic viewing spots with heated yurts and cozy cabins far from the city glow. But for Great Outdoors Month, we’re soaking, not stargazing (and we’re not mad about it).

Celebrating Solstice the Fairbanks Way

In June, we throw one of the biggest all-day, all-night parties this side of the Arctic Circle. During the Midnight Sun Festival, the whole downtown shuts down for food trucks, three stages of live music, games, and more. There’s even the Midnight Sun baseball game, a tradition since 1906 that began as a bet between two local bars. Played without artificial lights, the game starts at 10:00 PM and continues into the early hours, thanks to our nearly 24-hour daylight.

It’s a big, bright, beautiful celebration of summer and the kind of outdoor magic you just can’t experience anywhere else.

It’s more than just a party, though. For our team at APD, it’s a reminder of how special this community is. We’re not just working here—we’re raising families, playing in rec leagues, running into each other at farmers markets, and yes, dancing in the street at 11:45 PM.

Happy Great Outdoors Month from All of Us at APD

We love calling Fairbanks home, and we’re proud to serve a community that makes the most of every season. We hope this month inspires you to step outside and enjoy everything our backyard has to offer.

We’ll see you out there! Probably in sunglasses.
